West Ham signing this all-action 22-year-old star would settle their midfield for the next decade – opinion

West Ham opinion: The Hammers should reignite interest in Franck Kessie

West Ham have a lot of work to do before Manuel Pellegrini’s rebuild at the club is done. The former Manchester City manager has a few transfer windows to help his cause though and he has to use them very smartly, failing which things could go sidewise very fast.

Just ask Slaven Bilic how his tenure at West Ham went especially after he lost Dimitri Payet. The former Hammers boss had to give in to the sale of the Frenchman eventually and that effectively defined his career at the club.

Now at Marseille, Payet was supposed to be the man who would change West Ham’s course, moving them from mid-table into the Europa League.
But then came his mid-season tantrum and everything changed for both the player and Bilic.

Now, the Hammers have a rebuild on their hands under Pellegrini and to do that is easier said than done. It’s something that will take a lot of time and effort but yet it is not something beyond their reach if the money they spent last summer was any indication.

The club not only spent smartly but also splurged the cash when needed. One man that deserves the kind of money to be spent on him is Franck Kessie. The Hammers were linked with a move for the Ivory Coast star in March but interest since then has cooled down.

But given their midfield situation, few players in the world would be as worthy and perfect for West Ham as Kessie. A world-class talent despite all his struggles, Kessié is a star who needs a home.

An all-action midfielder, the 22-year-old can attack, defend and even dictate the play if needed, showing his versatility and talent. However, it’s really as a box-to-box midfielder that the Ivory Coast star excels at, flourishing in that role at Atalanta.

His stamina combined with his work ethic makes him perfect for the Premier League and it makes him the perfect man to replace Marko Noble. But while Kessie doesn’t contribute too much offensively, he more than makes up for it in other areas.

Conclusion

With Mark Noble already at the age of 32, there is little to no chance that Declan Rice can rule a midfield all on his own. He’s one man short of that job and that’s exactly why someone like Franck Yannick Kessie would be perfect for West Ham.
