West Ham Opinion: Why the Hammers should go for Sebastien Haller?

According to a report from The Chronicle, West Ham are interested in signing Eintracht Frankfurt star, Sebastien Haller.

The 25-year-old was in superb form in Germany last season, racking up 20 goals and 12 assists in 41 appearances in all competitions for Frankfurt. His goalscoring exploits have caught the attention of a number of clubs, including West Ham.

The Hammers finished tenth in the Premier League table this past season, just five points away from seventh.

Manuel Pellegrini should have been happy with how things concluded in his debut season at the London Stadium, considering the Hammers had lost their first four games. The Chilean has made some signings in the ongoing transfer market and looks hungry for more, as the East Londoners look to break into the top-six.

One area the West Ham tactician should now focus on strengthening is the strike department, with Javier Hernandez the only recognised centre-forward left at the club following Marko Arnautovic’s departure to China.

The East Londoners have already released Andy Carroll and sold Lucas Perez to Alaves this summer, leaving Pellegrini with very limited firepower up front.

Pellegrini needs to sign at least two strikers to compete for a place in Europe next season. With that in mind, Haller would be a good fit at the London Stadium.

Standing at 6ft 3in tall, Haller has enjoyed a fantastic season in Germany with Frankfurt, of course reaching the Europa League semi-finals against Chelsea and finishing in seventh place.

He seems to possess the kind of physical attributes needed to be a success in the Premier League. The Frenchman would be able to lead the line for West Ham with aplomb and his ability to link up play between midfield and attack would be a great asset for them.

While Haller clearly has aerial ability, he is a natural finisher as well knowing where the goal is.

He has pace and power in abundance and with an ability to not only score goals but bring his teammates into the game. Certainly, the former Utrecht star potentially can form a deadly attack with the likes of Manuel Lanzini, Felipe Andersen and Pablo Fornals.

The French striker still has plenty of unfulfilled potential and Pellegrini could be the right manager to help him unlock that.

Verdict

Haller is a top striker that would be a massive coup for West Ham. The former France youth international can be a star at the London Stadium, and he could be the signing that takes Pellegrini’s side to the next level.
