West Ham pushing hard to sign this Bundesliga star would add a lot of quality to a key area on the field

West Ham opinion: The Hammers should try harder for Charles Aranguiz

According to reports from the Daily Star, West Ham have failed with a bid for Bayer Leverkusen star Charles Aranguiz. The Hammers may have started the window rather brilliantly by adding Roberto and David Martin, but since then things have moved rather slowly.

They got Pablo Fornals in after a long and overdue transfer saga, with the young Spaniard adding an excellent midfield presence. However, nothing has happened since and the report from the Daily Star has further added that the Hammers are frustrated with the slow activity.

Things need to change and adding Charles Aranguiz is the way to move forward. The Hammers need a new defensive midfielder, especially with the links and rumours of sending Declan Rice away from the club.

Not to mention, even if they do keep the 21-year-old at the club, West Ham do not have any other options. Carlos Sanchez was brought in last summer but the former Fiorentina man has spent most of his time in the Premier League injured.

That changes things and it’s exactly where someone like Charles Aranguiz enters the fray and the 30-year-old would be a brilliant addition. His sheer presence would have added something that the Hammers desperately need in their line-up.

A brilliant and very aggressive midfield destroyer, the Chilean also adds reliability to his mix of tricks. It’s what Jorge Sampaoli turned him into, making him effectively the modern regista and the old school defensive destroyer rolled into one.

Not as technically adept as most midfielders, Charles Aranguiz makes up for it with dynamism and tactical awareness, which is what makes him very reliable with the ball.

His statistics prove that more than anything, with him averaging an 88.6% passing accuracy, 68 odd passes per game to add to his defensive contributions. That includes 1.9 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and a rather stunning average of 1.5 key passes per game.

His versatility, cunningness and work-ethic will help him survive in the Premier League and maybe even thrive. All attributes that West Ham need and it’s exactly why the Hammers need to rethink their strategy and make another move.

Because given their rather flimsy midfield depth, they could use a tough and ruthless Chilean in there.

West Ham need a new midfield destroyer and the Hammers lack depth in the midfield, which is one more reason why Charles Aranguiz will be perfect.
