A much-needed attacking boost? – Here’s why it makes sense for West Ham to sign this clinical 28-year-old

West Ham opinion: West Ham should make a move for Andrej Kramaric

According to reports from the Leicestershire Live, West Ham are still very interested in making a move for Hoffenheim star Andrej Kramaric. The former Leicester City striker has been on fire in the Bundesliga and that has seen a few sides take note.

The Hammers are not the first to the race, with CalcioMercato reporting that AC Milan have also taken a keen interest. However, given their terrible number 9 situation, this is a move that West Ham have to win if they ever want to become relevant again.

The Hammers certainly made a splash last season by bringing in the likes of Felipe Anderson, Issa Diop, Lukasz Fabianski and Jack Wilshere amongst others. While a few of their new signings struggled, a few really hit the ground running.

Fabianski was arguably the best goalkeeper outside the top-six sides and Felipe Anderson finished his debut Premier League season with 9 goals and four assists. Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena proved to be the rocks that West Ham have been looking for but their only issue was with their strikers.

Marko Arnautovic has proven to be their talisman but their absurd dependence on him needs to stop. The 28-year-old is not the man that anyone wants leading the line, especially a club like West Ham, who are trying to build a more functional team. Manuel Pellegrini has started a rather impressive project at the Olympic Stadium.

Now, with the addition of Pablo Fornals and a few more new signings, it could be just the side they need to challenge the top-six. But to do that, they need a proper goalscorer and not some converted winger who has never scored more than 12 league goals in his career.

It’s exactly where Andrej Kramaric walks in and the Croatian international is the striker the Hammers have been crying out for.  While he struggled during his time at Leicester City, Kramaric has come leaps and bounds since then, becoming one of the most reliable strikers in the Bundesliga.

He’s consistently managed double figures for Hoffenheim and made himself an absolute menace. A versatile forward, the Croatian has the ability and speed to play as a lone striker or even as a winger out on the flanks.

However, it’s up front where the 28-year-old excels, thanks to his blend of speed, clinical finishing and deceiving strength. Furthermore, his spatial and footballing intelligence makes him perfect for the Premier League, which is one of the reasons why he finished with 22 goals last season.

That doesn’t include the five assists, which is just one less than what West Ham’s best playmaker managed. It emphasises just what the 28-year-old forward can add and maybe he can turn the Hammers into a deadly side.

West Ham United have turned themselves into a rather impressive team, with the right blend of youth and experience. They’ve brought in a few talented superstars. The Hammers need a new frontman leading the line and Andrej Kramaric is arguably their best option.
