Why West Ham should go all out to sign Youssef En-Nesyri from Leganes

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Brighton and West Ham are interested in signing Leganes striker Youssef En-Nesyri.

Youssef En-Nesyri, 22, was a revelation in his debut season for Leganes, becoming their first player to score a La Liga hat-trick as part of an 11-goal haul. He helped Leganes, one of the smaller clubs in La Liga Santander, finish 13th.

The centre-forward recently shone in the Africa Cup of Nations with Morocco, scoring twice. Having impressed with Leganes and now in the Africa Cup of Nations, West Ham must beat Brighton to the signing of Youssef En-Nesyri.

The Hammers need to strengthen their striker ranks after struggling for goals last season. Marko Arnautovic finished as the club’s top goalscorer in the Premier League but he has since moved to China, while Andy Carroll has already been released.

With Lucas Perez also departing, Manuel Pellegrini was left with very little options up front.

Sebastien Haller has since arrived from Eintracht Frankfurt in a club-record move and the big Frenchman appears to have the potential to be an inspired signing for Pellegrini’s side next season. But West Ham do need more depth in the striker ranks if they are to climb the table in 2019/20.

That being said, Youssef En-Nesyri could be a good addition to the Hammers ranks. Standing at 6ft 2in, the Moroccan is strong, powerful and excellent in the air as well as possesses a good turn of pace through the ground. He can hold the ball up very well, allowing his teammates to make intelligent runs in and around the box.

The 22-year-old can play upfront as the Hammers’ second-choice striker if they need him to be but En-Nesyri, playing just behind Haller, could be the best option for Pellegrini if he can sign up the Moroccan international.

Haller and En-Nesyri playing up front for West Ham looks and sounds like it would work and produce plenty of goals, especially if Pellegrini can incorporate creative minds such as Manuel Lanzini, Pablo Fornals and Felipe Anderson behind them, giving the ammunition to his front-men.

Verdict

West Ham really need to press on with signing more new players before next week’s transfer deadline and they should be looking at someone who can make a good impact for them in 2019/20.

Youssef En-Nesyri could be that player and the young striker’s acquisition would undoubtedly bolster the Hammers’ hopes of breaking into the top six.
