Why West Ham have done the right thing by signing up Lanzini to a long deal
West Ham have signed Manuel Lanzini to a long-term contract, who has been one of the most important players for the Hammers since joining in the 2015/16 season. He hasn’t quite been the talismanic figure that Dimitri Payet or Marko Arnautovic were in the last couple of seasons but has been just behind them in terms of his influence on the pitch.
He has suffered from injuries throughout his time but he finally looks like he might get a long run-out in the team with a lot of very talented players in West Ham now.
He’s their main playmaker, who is very good at retaining the ball under pressure, can take set-pieces, create in the final third and chip in with goals. Lanzini is also versatile as he can play as an advanced 8, a number 10 or as an inside forward to add some numerical superiority to the midfield.
His performances have also got him a place in the Argentinian national team since, showcasing his skills. He was even seen as an important cog in the Argentinian side that qualified for the World Cup last season.
West Ham have started this season fairly well and are currently sitting in 7th place with 7 points in 4 games so far. They got a real battering in their first game of the season against Manchester City but they’ve done better since with new signing Sebastien Haller doing very well so far.
Lanzini has been pulling the strings behind him and there is a lot more for West Ham to look forward to.

West Ham will go to Villa Park after the international break and it’s not going to be an easy game. A win will give them hope but they can take comfort in knowing that Lanzini will be around for the foreseeable future.
