West Ham beating Spurs’ £25m pursuit of this classy Championship ace would represent a massive coup

West Ham Opinion – The Hammers should beat Spurs for Jack Grealish

According to a report in Mirror, Premier League trio of Tottenham Hotspur, Bournemouth and West Ham are interested in signing Aston Villa star playmaker Jack Grealish in the summer window.

Spurs, who were very close to strike a £25million deal for the Englishman last summer, are ready to re-ignite their interest once the transfer window reopens.

As per the report, while Villa managed to hold on to their key player last time out, it would be difficult to do so this time.

This can be related to the fact that England manager Gareth Southgate has clearly mentioned that if Grealish is to play for the national team, he needs to ply his trade in the Premier League.

Hence, we could see the 23-year-old moving to a top-flight club in the summer. Here’s why West Ham must beat Tottenham in this race to sign the player:

West Ham could do with more creativity

West Ham have been playing a basic but attractive style of football under Manuel Pellegrini. The Chilean switches formations from 4-2-3-1 to 4-1-4-1. In both, he requires a number 10, a floating central midfielder and two wingers in between a striker and a defensive midfielder.

Manuel Lanzini was out for the most part of this season, meaning Mark Noble played that floater role. Meanwhile, we saw Samir Nasri, Robert Snodgrass donning the role of a number 10.

While that worked to some extent, consistency is something which is a paramount in the Premier League. Even though Lanzini is back from a long-term injury, he will take time to get to full match fitness.

Hence, the Hammers could do with having another quality playmaker, who can also play in wide areas, if required.

That all being explained, there is someone who can do the versatile job for them – Jack Grealish. The 23-year-old can play as a number 10, as one of the floating central midfielders, or in wide areas as well.

Thus, if West Ham manage to get him over the line at the London stadium, it would be some deal for them.

Conclusion

Everything points logically towards why the Hammers should go hammer and tongs and sign Jack Grealish in the summer. They have to be pro-active to get that done as the expectation of Tottenham joining the race is rave.
