West Ham beating Leicester to land this talented lower league teenager would be a terrific step towards a strong future

West Ham opinion: Pellegrini wants Chilvers – a good move for the future?

The Sun has reported that West Ham United and Leicester City are tracking Colchester starlet Noah Chilvers. Currently on a hot streak, the young midfielder has impressed for the League One side, doing remarkably well for an 18-year-old.

He joined the club as a youngster and has since climbed up the ladder at an impressive rate, so much so that Chilvers was awarded his senior debut for the club last month after impressing with their U23 side.

For an 18-year-old to be making his senior debut and flourishing, only a few players in the world can do that. A talented midfielder, Chilvers can play anywhere across the midfield line. However, it’s as a number 10 that the 18-year-old really flourishes, doing some of his best work behind the striker.

While the 18-year old hasn’t played at a level higher than League Two, he’s still shown impressive signs. Like most of England’s lower tiers, the League Two is just as physical as the Premier League if not as high on quality.

Only time will tell if Noah Chilvers can really flourish in the Premier League but if his ability on the ball, mentality and physicality are anything to go by, then he should do well.

For West Ham United, it’s his creativity that the Hammers need more than anything else. Manuel Lanzini is among their most creative players but injuries over the last few seasons have hurt the Argentine, with him even missing out on the 2018 World Cup.

The only other option for West Ham is Samir Nasri and the former Arsenal man has been in and out of the squad. Barring that, West Ham have no creative midfielders, with both Declan Rice and Mark Noble profiling as a defensive presence in the midfield.

This has caused a few problems as it means that West Ham have depended far too much on creativity from their wingers and marauding full-backs this season.

This, in turn, has stifled creativity, which for any team in the world, isn’t good.

Conclusion

Noah Chilvers has the potential to have a fantastic football career. The 18-year-old has everything he needs to flourish at the highest level and it’s up to him to pick his next move carefully. Moving to a club like West Ham will come with its risk but also with a lot of rewards.
