Back in January, the Daily Mirror claimed that West Brom were interested in signing Leicester City midfielder Andy King on loan. However, a move didn’t materialise and the midfielder went on to join Derby County.
The move to Derby County didn’t work out well for Andy King, as he managed just four appearances before suffering an ankle problem. It ruled the Welshman out for the rest of the campaign, and now he is looking for a new home this summer either on a permanent basis or on loan.
Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers is planning a massive clear-out as he hopes to work on a ‘tight squad’ for the upcoming season. He is keen to trim down his squad by offloading at least 12 players. One of the players the City boss wants out is King, whose contract at the King Power Stadium expires in 2020.
With that in mind, the time could be ripe for West Brom to rekindle their interest in King and sign him on a cut-price deal.
The Baggies will be hoping to improve on last year’s league campaign, as they missed out on promotion to the Premier League after losing to Aston Villa in their play-off semi-final.
West Brom boss Slaven Bilic has made the most of the summer transfer window and has added five new players this summer, with the latest being Romaine Sawyers.
The Midlands club, however, need more quality in the midfield after releasing the likes of Gareth Barry and James Morrison, while loanee Stefan Johansen has returned to Fulham. That’s why signing Andy King would make a lot of sense for West Brom.
Leicester’s longest-serving player, King is surplus to requirements for Rodgers but the box-to-box midfielder could add some much-needed quality to the Baggies midfield heading into the new campaign.

King, 30, is a solid passer of the ball and is composed in possession, which will help West Brom dictate the tempo of the game. The creative players will benefit from his inclusion in the side.
He is a proven Championship performer, having clocked up 205 appearances in the second tier with the Foxes. The Welshman has the knack of arriving late in the box and scoring goals, something which will give Bilic’s side a new dimension.
Still only 30 years of age, King would be a brilliant addition to the West Brom side which is aiming for promotion. He can score goals and his experience could come really handy for the Baggies.
