West Brom should do everything in their powers to keep hold of 28-year-old speed demon and here’s why

West Brom opinion: The Baggies must do everything to keep Dwight Gayle

The Chronicle Live has reported that West Bromwich Albion striker Dwight Gayle has admitted that he wants to stay at West Bromwich if given the choice. While he is contracted to Newcastle United, the 28-year-old has been on-loan with Baggies since the start of the season.

Gayle, alongside Jay Rodriguez, has been incredible. At the moment, West Brom sit in fourth place with 73 points to their name, which should be enough to keep them in the running for a promotion playoff spot.

They have a four-point lead over Aston Villa are also six-points behind Sheffield United. As mentioned above, Gayle has played a big part in that.

With Rodriguez linked with a move to Burnley (Calciomercato), things could get complicated. That’s exactly why West Bromwich should consider making a permanent deal for Dwight Gayle.

The 28-year-old struggled during his spell in the Premier League, with both Newcastle United and Crystal Palace, but has always flourished in the Championship. The Baggies will need to tell him that.

Their chances of finishing in a promotion playoff spot are very high but it’s anyone’s guess if they will make it past that stage.

Next season, with Jay Rodriguez in heavy demand, the 28-year-old Gayle could be the Baggies’ main-man forward. His speed, agility and attacking instincts will prove to be invaluable.

Also, the fact that Newcastle United are keen on keeping Salomon Rondon at the club could see the two sides could come to an agreement. That’s something that has already been suggested by the Magpies [Chronicle Live (h/t TeamTalk)], as they look towards next season.

Dwight Gayle has not impressed manager Rafael Benitez, which is why he opted to sign Rondon on loan. Things are looking better for Gayle since his move to West Bromwich Albion. It would be in his best interests, along with West Brom, for him to stay at the club.

Conclusion

West Bromwich needs reinforcements next season. Their main concerns will be a striker for next season, but if they manage to sign Dwight Gayle permanently, they could reinforce in other areas.
