West Brom raiding rivals to sign this 13-goal speedster for £10m would propel them towards promotion – Agreed?

West Brom Opinion: Why the Baggies should go for Famara Diedhiou?

According to a report from France Football, West Brom are one of the Championship clubs interested in signing Bristol City striker Famara Diedhiou.

The Senegalese, 26, hit 13 goals for the Robins last season, picking up two assists in the process as well. He is under contract with Bristol City until 2021, but it is believed that the Championship club would look at offers worth between £8m and £10m, adds the report.

With that in mind, West Brom should meet Bristol’s valuation from Famara Diedhiou and sign him this summer.

The Baggies have appointed Slaven Bilic as their new manager after missing out on top-flight promotion. Bilic is hoping to build a team that will challenge for promotion next season, although he is yet to add a player so far this summer.

West Brom could do with some depth in the forward department, with last season’s star, Dwight Gayle having returned back to Newcastle United following the expiry of his loan spell.

Gayle was the club’s chief source for goals and alongside Jay Rodriguez formed a lethal partnership up front. There is a chance of Rodriguez also leaving the Hawthorns this summer, with the 29-year-old striker having a release clause in his contract.

As far as Salomon Rondon is concerned, he spent last season at Newcastle on loan and won their player of the season as he bagged 12 Premier League goals. But the Venezuelan isn’t keen on a return to West Ham to play in the Championship and as per the Express, West Ham want the burly target-man to replace the outgoing Marko Arnautovic.

That makes it an absolute necessity for Bilic to sign a new centre-forward and he should go for Diedhiou. The Senegalese had a hot and cold 2018/19 campaign, yet managed 13 goals for Bristol.

He hasn’t been a prolific goalscorer since arriving at Bristol from Angers in 2017, but the 26-year-old is capable of making an impact for a team like West Brom and he could really benefit from playing for one of the top teams in the league.

Standing at 6ft 2in tall, Diedhiou is a traditional centre-forward, known for his strength in the air and hold-up play.

With West Brom having good crossers of the ball in Matt Phillips and Chris Brunt from wide areas, the 26-year-old could thrive as a target-man at the Hawthorns.

Verdict

As a result, bringing in Diedhiou is a necessity, as the Senegal international is proven in the Championship and could hold the key for West Brom’s promotion.
