Is This West Brom Outcast A Good Option For Tottenham?

Saido Berahino

Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur side have found consistency hard to come by this season as they have failed to keep up their tremendous work at the top of the table from the previous season. Their 2-1 victory over Burnley recently helped them to maintain their 5th place in the points table, 1 point off Arsenal and the manager will hope that his side can keep winning at least till the turn of the year.

Spurs have been struggling in front of goal at times this season and the manager is sure to jump into the transfer market in January for some attacking additions which have seen the club linked with some of the best players in Europe. But one player who is now extensively linked with a move to the White Hart Lane is West Bromwich Albion attacker Saido Berahino.

Spurs were desperate for Berahino before the start of the previous season but the Baggies decided to turn down three bids from the London outfit to keep him at the club for another season. However, Berahino failed to have any kind of an impact at the club as his season was ruined with injuries that saw him fall down the pecking order under Tony Pulis this season. The 23-year old has not played a game for the Baggies since the starting of September and has scored his last goal for the club back in February this year.

Saido Berahino

He was recently sent to a conditioning camp in France to try and get him back to full fitness but with his contract expiring at the end of the current season, West Brom are ready to let him leave the club. A number of Premier League clubs are interested in his signature with the likes of Watford, Stoke City West Ham and Everton all monitoring his situation and Spurs have also joined the race.

A center forward by trait, the 23-year old is equally adept playing as a number 10 or on the wings as he is at leading the attack for his side and is a player that fits Pochettino’s style of play at the Lane well. He loves to shoot from long distances but his biggest strengths are his pace and his dribbling abilities. Not the tallest strikers in the league, Berahino is also strong enough in the air to trouble some of the best defenders in the league but he is not the best at holding up the ball, a trait that makes him a liability in the Premier League.

But at his age, he has plenty of time to learn the trade and grow into a top class player and the Lane is one of the best places for his future. Pochettino loves to stick with young players who have potential and Berahino has loads of it. He is a raw talent that has been wasted at the Hawthorns for almost a year now and if the English U21 international can get some help from the boss at the Lane, he can turn into a match winner for his side.

Do you think Saido Berahino is a good option for the Spurs?
