West Brom Opinion – West Brom handing a new deal to Rekeem Harper is a no-brainer

According to a report in Daily Mail, Championship hopefuls West Brom are in advanced talks with Rekeem Harper to offer him a new deal. The teenager’s current contract expires in the summer, prompting interest from few Premier League clubs.

As per the report, the Baggies want to keep hold of the midfielder but despite the talks being positive, a conclusion hasn’t been reached thus far. The Birmingham-born player has been at the club since the age of 12 and made his Premier League debut against Bournemouth in 2017.

West Brom have seen their other prospects Tyler Roberts and Izzy Brown leave, but they seem determined to keep hold of Harper and tie him to a long-term deal (h/t Daily Mail).

Here’s why offering a contract to the teenager is a no-brainer decision by the club:

Harper is one of the key players in the West Brom team now

Rekeem Harper has made only 10 appearances in the league this season, but most of them have come since the turn of this year. Hence, one can easily see that the teenager is one of the key players in the West Brom setup now.

He has been a great addition to the Baggies’ midfield, adding more ball-playing qualities and extra energy. The 18-year-old does possess everything a proper central midfielder should offer, and he is improving on a game-by-game basis to encourage the manager to select him.

If West Brom get promoted to the Premier League, it would be nice for them to have a young and fearless midfielder in their ranks, who is not shy of expressing himself.

From the player’s point of view, signing a deal with this team would be beneficial for his development. He is working with a manager who trusts him by giving first-team opportunities.

Conclusion

Thus, from the viewpoint of both parties, this agreement on a new deal is a no-brainer decision. West Brom should get this done as soon as possible and use one of their academy products in the first-team for as long as they wish to.
