According to the Reading Chronicle, new Reading manager Jose Gomes has put David Meyler up for sale.
David Meyler, 29, moved from Hull City to Reading last summer but the move hasn’t gone according to the plan. He has made just five Championship starts for Reading this season and is yet to play a single game since September.
Though Reading are struggling, placed 23rd in the Championship, the Irishman is yet to get a look in under the new manager, who has transfer listed him without handing him a chance to show his worth.
Having not featured for the Royals since September, David Meyler needs to move out of the club this month to reboot his career.
West Brom must make a loan move for Meyler this month as Darren Moore aims to get the club promoted to the top-flight at the first time of asking. The Baggies currently find themselves fourth in the Championship standings, just five points off league leaders Leeds United after the completion of 26 games.
Darren Moore has done a good job by quickly completing the signing of Mason Holgate from Everton on loan until the end of the season. However, that won’t be enough for West Brom as they are chasing promotion.
Moore needs to add a couple of fresh faces more to his squad in his quest to win automatic promotion from the Championship to the Premier League.
A player of David Meyler’s ilk would definitely boost the Baggies for the second half of the season. A tenacious, aggressive and experienced player, the Irishman can play a multiple of positions across the defence and the midfield. He is a decent passer of the ball but his main trait lies in breaking up the opposition’s play.
The 29-year-old will add a lot of energy and bite to the West Brom midfield, and would also being a vocal leader in the dressing room. With Jake Livermore serving a suspension, and the likes of Gareth Barry, Chris Brunt and James Morrison in their 30s, Meyler could be a valuable addition for Moore.
At 29, Meyler still has a lot left in his tank to offer and he’ll be desperate to start playing again.
