West Brom opinion: The Baggies should make a move for Alex Neil

English news outlet Telegraph has reported that West Bromwich Albion’s top managerial target is Alex Neil. Currently managing Preston North End, the 37-year-old has done remarkably well i a managerial career that only started a little over seven years ago.

He started his touchline career with former club Hamilton Academy’s U-17 side. However, Neil soon progressed upwards at a rapid rate, moving into the first-team job within the next six months.

He officially retired as a player and took over as the club’s manager on a permanent basis after impressing as a caretaker. Neil’s performances with Hamilton’s first team were not the worst, with him averaging 1.83 points per game in his nearly 600 day tenure.

It was there that he showed what he could do, getting the club promoted into the Scottish Premiership in his very first season, and help them to the top of the table the following season. It showed his style of play and earned Alex Neil a move to Norwich City.

At Norwich, despite things not going his way at first, Neil eventually won over everyone at Carrow Road, playing a phenomenal brand of attacking football.

Under his tutelage, the likes of Wes Hoolahan, Nathan Redmond and even Leroy Fer played some of their best football. West Brom need someone who can walk into the team and help play attractive yet effective football.

At the moment, the Baggies sit in 4th place. The club are eight points behind third place Sheffield United but also four points ahead of 5th place Aston Villa. In all likelihood, the final promotion spot may not go to them and if that should happen, Alex Neil needs to be the first appointment they make.

The 37-year-old has asked the club to give him control over a lot of things, and in the long run, it will only help the Baggies (Sky Sports).

Conclusion

Alex Neil is a very exciting manager and has shown exactly what he can do with a meagre transfer budget at Preston North End.

At West Bromwich Albion, a lot of things could change under Neil but only if they convince him to make the move. They need a new manager and at the moment, there are few managerial candidates in England as good as Alex Neil.
