Wenger Is Not The Only Problem – Why Arsenal Should Sell This Attacking Duo In The Summer

Arsenal were held to a 0-0 draw against Sunderland, not the greatest result for the London side but a valuable point for the Black Cats in their fight for survival. One story that did pop up in this goalless draw was that of Olivier Giroud not scoring, yet again.

That meant the French attacker had not found the back of the net in his last eight games, a remarkable run considering that he does average a goal every other game. The last time Giroud scored was in the 4-0 win over Hull City, in the FA Cup. This marvel happened in the month of March and Giroud has not looked likely to break the duck till the season ends as well.

On the other hand, we have the player who flatters to deceive, Theo Walcott was signed as a youngster from Southampton but he has never really been able to live up to his potential and even trying to play him in different positions, it has not helped him cement a position either in the England side or in the Arsenal team.

There have been calls to sell the pair, especially Giroud and now it seems that it is time to make that decision. Selling Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud might end up looking like two of the stalwarts of the team are being left out but in reality this would actually be a good thing for the Gunners.

A few new faces can do wonders for the club

In the games against Barcelona and throughout the season where the Gunners meekly gave up or surrendered, there were many players who thought that the players in side were too comfortable and that needed to change.

Walcott, Giroud and a few others have taken their place in the Arsenal team for granted. They know they will get a shot in the side, irrespective of what happens in the game. Giroud is the best striker that Arsenal have at the moment and he cannot be dropped simply because of the fact that Danny Welbeck cannot take his place in the XI.

The funny thing is that Theo Walcott simply has not done enough to earn a place in the Arsenal team and had it been any other manager, Walcott would have been sold a couple of seasons ago. The English attacker hasn’t really lived up to what he could be and has stagnated at Arsenal.

Giroud and Walcott are a couple of players who could free up a lot of the wage bill as well. 29-year-old Giroud can still claim to have scored 20 goals in all competitions this season but his patchy form is the problem that needs to be rectified.

Walcott on the other hand hasn’t really put up a couple of good performances back-to-back this season. He might have scored nine goals this season but that has come in 41 appearances, Giroud has scored 20 in 50. The 27-year-old Walcott could be on his last few days in London but it would be interesting to see just who would want to sign him up, considering his age and wage.
