Wenger Hints New Transfers In Next Few Weeks

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admitted that his squad lacks depth to play full season after 3-1 friendly win over Manchester City on Saturday, suggesting Arsenal could sign few players before the transfer window gets closed.

With Gervinho, Andre Santos, Andrey Arshavin, and few others have already left the club and Yaya Sanogo being the only new addition to the senior team, fans are growing  increasingly frustrated by the lack of new signings.

Wenger: We need more players

Wenger said,

“I think what is important is the strength of the squad,”

“Today is one game.”

“We want to play 55 games and we are maybe a bit thin squad-wise to go through a whole season.”

While Luis Suarez saga continues, reports from Germany suggest that Bayern Munich have accepted Arsenal’s bid for their defensive enforcer Luiz Gustavo. Arsenal are also interested in Manchester United target Geoffrey Kondogbia. Metro reported that Arsenal are ready to trigger £8.5million release clause to force Sevilla to sell.

Arsenal are striving to find a defensive midfielder and 20-year old Kondogbia may be the exact solution to their problems.

In other news, Wenger talking about Wilshere’s England call up expressed his happiness for the youngster. The England International has struggled with knee and ankle problems off late and underwent a minor operation earlier this summer. He featured in Arsenal’s recent 3-1 friendly match win against Manchester City.

“I decided before the game to only play Jack for 45 minutes because I want to take it step by step,” Wenger said, quoted in the Daily Mirror. Now he goes away with the national team and, when England play Scotland, it is always competitive.

“Jack will go away with England with our blessing. But then we have some big occasions in front of us, with Aston Villa and also the Champions League.”
