Why Celtic Are Right In Rejecting Bids For Moussa Dembele
Moussa Dembele is a wonderfully talented young player. In his first season north of the border, he managed to score 32 goals and has followed that up this season with a further 8. He has attracted the attention of Premier League clubs up and down the league, but the only official bid has come from Brighton who have said that they would be willing to stump up £18million for the 21-year-old. However, Celtic are holding firm and have said that Dembele is not for sale.
Perhaps Moussa Dembele is also aware that he is not having a season as good as the previous one. He could consider making a move now in order to freshen things up. At the age of just 21, the form of a player can ebb and flow and clearly, Dembele is in a lull at the moment. But his talent has not gone away and as his career develops, the lure of the Premier League will only get louder.
For Celtic, as arguably the biggest club in Scotland, they have a model which includes buying young players with talent and then selling them on for a large profit. He was brought by Celtic on a free transfer so as far as they are concerned, they are on track to make a huge profit.
However, the value of Dembele over the next few years is only likely to increase. So holding on to him now will not just be good for the team but would also be good for the club in the future. As Celtic approach the end of the season, Dembele will be needed to make sure they finish off the league with a flourish.
Dembele may well return to form very soon, hopefully in time for Celtic’s Europa League clash with Zenit St. Petersburg. The time to sell Dembele will come eventually and the player will be hoping that he receives a better offer than Brighton’s.
For Celtic, while they keep hold of him, they need to use him as effectively as possible and also look for the next version of the nippy forward. If they manage to find that, then it will be easier to let the young former Fulham forward move on to pastures new.
