Well Done Mourinho – Handing The Captain’s Armband To This Manchester United Superstar Is A Welcome Decision

Why Paul Pogba Needs To Be Given The Captain’s Armband On A Permanent Basis

Manchester United continued their good form in the Champions League as they managed to take all three points from their first game of the group stages of the competition on Tuesday. Jose Mourinho will be happy with the way things are going at the moment but he will know that they will have to stay consistent throughout the campaign to make sure they better their results from the previous season.

The likes of Anthony Martial, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic have all found some match-winning form early this season but one player who has really made a difference is French international Paul Pogba.

A record transfer not so long ago, Pogba was effective in bits and pieces last season but coming into his second full-season of his second spell at Old Trafford, he has improved as a player and seems ready to shoulder the responsibilities in the midfield.

So it did not come as a huge surprise that he was named the captain of the Manchester United side that faced FC Basel on Tuesday. The 24-year old showed off the arm band in that game but his joy did not last long as he picked up a hamstring injury, that saw him get subbed off in the 19th minute of the game.

Manchester United managed to win the game in spite of his injury and Mourinho revealed that Pogba could miss few weeks of action. But, is he the right man to lead the side in the long run?

Paul Pogba

The Red Devils had Antonio Valencia as the skipper last season. The Ecuadorian full-back remain one of the most experienced players in the current squad at the club but Mourinho decided to strip him of the armband and handed it to Pogba. There is little doubt if he will be given the arm band again, once he returns from injury.

At just 24, the former Juventus man has already established himself as one of the best midfielders, not just in England, but also in Europe. He has the right balance of aggression and discipline, and is a player that can walk into every top side in the world.

With two goals and two assists in the first four games of the season, he is only getting better as a player and given his top notch mentality, he is as good an option as any in the current squad, to lead the side.

Mourinho rarely makes wrong decisions and giving Pogba the responsibility to lead the side would keep up that record.

Paul Pogba – from being Fergie’s reject to becoming the captain of Manchester United. What a journey!
