Why Barcelona’s Gerard Deulofeu Can Work Wonders At Watford

Watford have completed a sensational loan move to land Barcelona winger Gerard Deulofeu. The 23-year-old is set to return to the Premier League after spending an earlier chunk of his career with Everton. The Hertfordshire club are in a transition phase once more following the infamous sacking of the dynamic Marco Silva but signing a promising young star like Deulofeu is likely to be a step in the right direction.

Deulofeu is a product of the Catalan club’s esteemed youth academy and although he has managed to break into the first-team, the player has been starved of starting opportunities. He boasts of immense talent and tremendous potential but due to a significant lack of game time, the Spaniard’s development has been somewhat stunted until now. Despite appearing just 13 times across competitions for Barcelona so far this season, Deulofeu still managed to chip in with a solitary goal and assist.

Most of his appearances were as a substitute but even when he received starts, he was deployed primarily on the right-hand side of the midfield. His preferred position is on the right-wing and he could prove to be a force to be reckoned with in that area for Watford.

The Hornets have already enjoyed success with Richarlison. The young Brazilian has easily been one of the most influential players this season and new manager Javi Gracia is likely to be relishing the prospect of deploying Richarlison on the left-wing and Deulofeu on the right.

The two attackers could combine with the striker and work well on opposite flanks. If they can get things going, there is no doubt that Watford could see a tremendous surge in their good fortune in the days to come.

The club have often struggled with pace and creativity up front but with Richarlison’s brilliance and Deulofeu having a point to prove, both youngsters are likely to deliver astounding results. Their combined efforts could also help the likes of Troy Deeney and Andre Gray when it comes to scoring goals.

At present, Watford are gracing the 10th spot in the league standings and although it is not a bad place to be in, their performances have rather been disappointing lately. They started out on a strong note and were even primed for an ambitious top-6 finish but as days wore on, so did their displays on the field. They have lacked attacking intent but with Deulofeu in the mix, Gracia will be hoping for a miraculous turn of events.
