Well done Bruce – Landing this talented 20-year-old is a coup by Aston Villa

Why getting Tammy Abraham on loan is a coup by Aston Villa

According to reports in BBC, Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham has joined championship team Aston Villa on a season-long loan deal. The 20-year-old has spent the previous two seasons playing for Bristol City and Swansea City, impressing many and earning an England call-up last year.

While Chelsea were happy to let the striker go on loan, so that he can play some games and get his rhythm back, it is a good move for Aston Villa as well.

Steve Bruce’s men have lacked goals and ruthlessness to finish off chances. Jonathan Kodjia hasn’t had a very sparkling start to this season, so adding Abraham to the squad will enable the manager to trust him for goalscoring duties. The youngster scored 26 goals for Bristol City during his previous stint in the Championship back in the 2016/17 season.

Hence, one may wonder why Bruce has gone for him.

Potential link-up with Grealish

Abraham is a type of striker who can be versatile in his movements in and around the box. He can run the channels on the counter to stretch the defence, which allows midfield runners, especially the attacking midfielder, to find space centrally. This is where Jack Grealish would be of most use for Villa.

On the other side, against a deep-defending team, Abraham can come short to link up with Grealish and create space. The former can also fake his inward run and spin in behind the defence.

The prospect of two young England players combining to do well for the club is very high. Both Grealish and Abraham should be thinking of performing well this season, which will enable them to become a deadly pair at senior level.

Verdict

Abraham’s record when he previously spent a season in Championship is surreal. Aston Villa and Steve Bruce would be hoping for more of the same. If the 20-year-old matches that, it will not only help him increase his prominence but Villa would have a great chance for pushing towards Premier League promotion.

Hence, getting the striker on a season-long loan deal is quite a coup by Bruce and his men.
