“We were poor”, “Poch got this one wrong”: Some Tottenham fans react angrily after 4-2 loss to Arsenal + Match report

Arsenal 4-2 Tottenham Hotspur: Gunners floor Spurs in a comeback victory

It turned out to be another grim day for Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates as Arsenal won the North London bragging rights by winning 4-2.

Tottenham Hotspur went a goal down when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored from the penalty spot nine minutes into the game after referee Mike Dean penalised Jan Vertonghen for handball.

However, as Arsenal failed to convert their chances, Tottenham Hotspur pulled level through Eric Dier on the half-hour mark as Bernd Leno failed to keep out the Englishman’s near-post header from a Christian Eriksen free-kick.

Just four minutes after equalising, Tottenham took a 2-1 lead. Mike Dean pointed to the spot after Rob Holding foolishly left a leg in on Son Heung-min (although contact appeared to be minimal) and Harry Kane dispatched the resultant spot-kick.

In a matter of few minutes, the game turned on its head and Tottenham started dominating the proceedings. Both teams headed into the tunnel after 45 minutes, with Spurs leading 2-1.

Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham started the second half well but the Gunners were level in the 56th minute when Aubameyang’s stunning first-time effort from 25 yards caught out Hugo Lloris and huddled into the bottom corner.

And Spurs went 3-2 down with 15 minutes to go when half-time substitute Alexandre Lacazette’s 20-yard effort took a deflection off Eric Dier and trickled past Lloris into the net.

The hosts added a fourth two minutes later through Lucas Torreira after he raced through on goal at an angle. And soon Spurs’ day turned from bad to worse with six minutes remaining, as Vertonghen was sent off for a second yellow after a rash challenge on Lacazette.

Defeat at the Emirates saw Spurs take the fifth place in the Premier League table, eight points off leaders Manchester City.
