We Want To Sign Suarez – Wenger Reveals As Uruguayan Considers Transfer Request And Court Proceedings

It’s been a month since the transfer window has begun. So far now, the only player who has put pen to paper for the Gunners is Yaya Sanogo. On a contrary, a host of players including Andrey Arshavin and Sebastien Squillaci have been shown the door.

But this mere statistics hardly have an impact on the Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger. It will be his sixteenth season at the Emirates. The Frenchman is quite adamant with the fact that his young squad is capable enough to challenge any team in the Premier League, regardless of whether he adds any new players ahead of the transfer deadline which expires at the end of August.

So far, Arsenal have been chasing really big names this summer. The list includes Higuain, Rooney, Suarez and many more. But much to fans agony, not a single rumour has taken a concrete shape. Quoted by the Skysports, Wenger said:

“We are still working on improving our squad but we have a base of young players who get a chance here and who started in the Premier League, such as Szczesny, Jenkinson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Wilshere, Ramsey, Walcott – that is unique, nobody else has done that.

“These players can have a special bond and they are on the way upwards, they are not over the hill. They will be better next year and that is why I am confident we will be stronger next season. We had a fantastic end to the season because we won eight of our last 10 (league) games.

Though the exit list from Emirates is quite long, Wenger may have interpreted that he hasn’t sold any player who is worthy to feature in the Gunner’s team.

And the latest buzz quoted, according to the BBC is that, Luis Suarez will consider submitting a formal transfer request and the possibility of court action if his Liverpool dispute is not resolved say sources close to the player.

Wenger when quizzed about Suarez’s situation, said

We want to [sign Suarez] if it is feasible in an amicable way,” said Gunners manager Arsene Wenger. We will respect what Liverpool want to do. I don’t want to speak about Suarez, because that is between Liverpool and Arsenal. I am a great believer you have to keep as much confidentiality as possible, which is quite difficult in the modern world.

“But we work very hard, not only on the case you name, but on other different cases. We can still strengthen the squad, there is one month to go. We are at the beginning of August and working very hard to strengthen our squad.

“I am confident. You look at many teams around us. Nothing has happened until now. At the moment the market hasn’t moved a lot. Apart from Manchester City, nobody has done anything.”

When Suarez extended his contract with the Reds back in August 2012, he was alleged to have verbally agreed with Liverpool that If they fail to qualify for the Champions League and if a good offer comes in his way, he should be allowed to leave Anfield. Sources close to Suarez say he will consider taking his case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport  and he did go down a similar route when Dutch side Groningen turned down an offer from Ajax  for his services in 2007.

In other news, Wenger has let go yet another player from the current squad. League One side Crewe Alexandra have re-signed Arsenal midfielder Chuks Aneke on a six-month loan deal. 20-years old Aneke scored 8 goals in 38 appearances for the Crewe Alexandra during his last two loan spells there.
