Watford signing this 19-year-old Barcelona sensation would sort out their attack for the foreseeable future

Watford opinion: Should the Hornets sign Jean-Clair Todibo?

According to the Watford Observer, Watford have been linked with a move for Barcelona’s young centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo. The 19-year-old made a name during his time in Ligue 1 with Toulouse, which earned him a move to Barcelona.

The Frenchman is great in the air, can pick a pass through the lines, has great strength in duels and is very combative. He symbolizes most of the traits of a modern day centre-back but lacks a little disciple.

Discipline is perhaps the most important factor when considering the recruitment of a defender but Todibo is still fairly young and will learn the trade over time.

According to the report, Barcelona are ready to listen to offers for the young Frenchman. Barca signed the centre-back in the January transfer window on a Bosman deal and the Frenchman was handed the number 6 shirt.

The youngster hadn’t played a professional game until the start of last season but quickly become a revelation, capable of playing in most defensive positions, including defensive midfield.

The centre-back has had to deal with some real setbacks in life, having been involved in a car accident at the tender age of 9. He suffered injuries on both legs and that could very well have been the end of a promising career. The incident helped build his career into what it is today.

This wouldn’t be the first time that Barcelona have picked up a diamond in the rough, who hasn’t quite looked like a long term prospect. Barcelona signed Yerry Mina in the 2017/18 January window, only to send him out on loan to Everton in the summer.

Watford, on the other hand, have had an interesting season. They looked well placed to make a Europa League spot but fell flat towards the end of the season, finishing in 11th place.

This could have been due to the road to for the FA Cup finals. The road to the finals was a fantastic achievement in itself but their 6-0 battering in the final against Manchester City took the gloss out of their entire campaign.

Javi Gracia, like most of the Watford managers in recent times, made a promising start to his Watford tenure but couldn’t sustain the consistency towards the end of the season.

Conclusion

Gracia will need help in the transfer market, otherwise, Watford will once again fall into the vicious cycle of hiring and firing managers.

Todibo would be a marquee signing for the London club and will help them make a push for that elusive Europa League spot.
