Watford must break the bank to invest in signing this fiery Senegalese winger who will cost around £35m – Agreed?

Watford Opinion: Why the Hornets should break their bank for Ismaila Sarr?

According to a report from Sky Sports, Watford are interested in signing Rennes winger Ismaila Sarr.

The Senegal international, 21, impressed in last year’s World Cup and took that form into the 2018/19 season, producing 13 goals and 11 assists as Rennes defeated Paris Saint-Germain in the Coupe de France final and reached the Europa League last eight.

The report adds that Ismaila Sarr is likely to cost £35m and AS Roma are in advanced talks to sign him. That being said, Watford should attempt to hijack the deal and break their bank to sign the 21-year-old speed bullet.

Watford missed out on a place in the qualifying rounds of the Europa League after the 6-0 thrashing at the hands of Manchester City in the FA Cup final in May. The Hornets looked set for a top-eight finish but disastrous form during the business end of the 2018/19 campaign cost them a chance.

Yet, manager Javi Gracia should be proud of his team’s overall performances and will look to build a squad over the summer to realistically challenge for a place in Europe next term.

The Hertfordshire-based club need some quality additions in every area of the pitch. They have strengthened their defence with the signing of Craig Dawson from West Brom. Now, Gracia must turn his attention towards adding a bit more pace and sprightliness to his attack in order to help Watford improve next season.

There is no doubting that Ismaila Sarr would be a quality acquisition for the Hornets, as he is one of the quickest attackers in world football. The 21-year-old, who is highly rated across Europe, scored eight goals and claimed seven assists in Ligue 1 last term.

A tricky and highly-skilled operator down the wide areas, the Senegalese combines his raw pace, agility and energy with his dribbling skills to cut inside from the flanks and crack a shot on goal or release a through ball for his teammates in the final third.

Sarr is an exceptional dribbler and he has the ability to score with both feet. The youngster is versatile and is capable of playing in different areas of the pitch.

The ex-Metz man’s spatial awareness and decision-making have improved massively in the last 12 months, making him one of the stars of Ligue 1 football.

All in all, Sarr would be an unbelievable addition to the Watford side, whilst forming an exciting attack with the likes of Troy Deeney, Gerard Deulofeu and Roberto Pereyra.

Verdict

If Watford can somehow meet Rennes’ valuation for Sarr and sign him, Gracia can be hopeful of securing a European place next term.
