Watford have struck gold by signing English star for free and he’ll help them push for a top-6 finish – opinion

Here’s what Watford can expect from Danny Welbeck

Danny Welbeck has joined Watford on a free transfer from Arsenal. The former England international and Manchester United forward had to see his contract expire after suffering a long-term injury last season.

His versatility and experience at the top level would make him a fantastic addition to any Premier League side.

Welbeck can play anywhere in the forward line, has fantastic hold-up play, great work rate and can chip in with his fair share of goals. Over the years, he’s been at his best in the big games during his time at Arsenal and Manchester United, and this is something that the Hornets could look forward to.

Welbeck is now 28-years old and doesn’t necessarily have to play all games. Watford have Gerard Deulofeu, Roberto Pereyra, Troy Deeney and Andre Gray; who provide different attacking threats and Welbeck would be a fine addition to that.

Watford had made a very promising start to the previous season and had sustained it for a long time. They were in a fine position to get that elusive Europa League spot last season but got distracted by their fantastic FA Cup run which ultimately ended up being a bit of a disappointment.

It was rather anti-climactic as they lost 6-0 to Manchester City in the finals and also ended up finishing 11th in the Premier League. This was still their highest finish in the Premier League and Javi Gracia deserves a lot of credit for that.

Javi Gracia

He has made Watford a very strong unit and are now hard to beat, especially at home. After a lot of managerial changes in recent years, it looks like Watford might have finally found a manager who can keep them in the Premier League as a solid side that can sustain its form over longer periods instead of going on purple patches throughout the season.

They have to back him with transfers so that they can continue challenging the likes of Wolves, West Ham, Everton and Leicester City.

Conclusion

Danny Welbeck needs to get back to playing football and his experience at these top clubs and on the international level will help Watford make that little push that could finally see them push for European spots.
