Watford could bag a coup by beating Newcastle to the signature of this versatile 6’2″ free agent

Watford should certainly beat the Magpies to sign Diego Reyes

Watford will be aiming to get back to their best form after the club endured a frustrating spell last time out. Manager Javi Gracia has already taken the step of bolstering the squad with new faces. If Watford aim to be on par with other teams, the club are going to have to make transfers.

Javi Gracia has already brought in the likes of Gerard Deulofeu, Ben Foster, Ken Sema, Mark Navarro and Adam Masina. The Hornets will be aiming to make a strong start this time out. The club lost Richarlison to Everton for a reported fee of around £50million.

Gracia could use those funds to bring in more players before the transfer window closes on 9th August. The club have been linked with Mexican international defender Diego Reyes over the last few days.

Javi Gracia is reportedly interested in signing the free agent, who is without a club this summer after completing his contract with FC Porto.

Diego Reyes

Newcastle United and West Ham United have also shown keen interest to acquire his services but it seems as though Vicarage Road could be the right destination. Fenerbahce are also said to have made an offer for the defender.

The centre-back has a total of 53 caps for Mexico but was unable to represent his country in Russia due to a persistent hamstring injury. Reyes made the move to Porto in 2013 from Mexican outfit America.

After moving to Portugal, the defender was initially sent on loan spells with Real Sociedad and Espanyol. He has since gone on to make a total of 47 appearances for the club, scoring 5 goals.

Reyes made a total of 12 appearances in the Portuguese League last season, scoring 2 goals and providing 1 assist. He also made 3 appearances in the Taca De Portugal. The 6’2″ defender is a commanding presence at the back.

Diego Reyes

He’s an authoritative figure who likes to keep his defensive line in check at all times. Reyes is generally deployed as a centre-back but the Mexican is also capable of playing in a defensive midfielder role.

He’s also an accurate passer of the ball, averaging a pass success rate of 86.9% in the league last season.

Though the Magpies and the Hammers are also interested in signing the player, Javi Gracia should make the move quickly. Watford were leaking goals last season and they need a new defender to tighten things up.
