Why Watford are to offer new contract and loan out Cucho Hernandez

According to a report in Independent, Watford forward Cucho Hernandez has signed a new deal with the club, but is going to spend this season on loan at Spanish side Real Mallorca.

The Colombian international, who arrived at Vicarage Road in January 2017, hasn’t made an appearance for the Hornets yet and played for Spanish side Huesca previously.

The 20-year-old spent two seasons playing for the Azulgranas between 2017 and 2019, scoring 20 goals and assisting 9 in 70 appearances. Before that, he played in Colombia.

With Watford offering him a new deal, it seems as if the Premier League side are looking to have him in their first-team plans in the future. Furthermore, sending him to Mallorca would help him gain some much-needed experience of high-class Spanish football.

Here’s why the Hornets are right to offer Hernandez a new deal and why is it a right decision to send him on loan for this season:

Hernandez could have a greater impact for Watford next summer

Cucho Hernandez is a versatile forward, who prefers to play as a striker, but is comfortable operating on either wing, or as a support striker, if required by the team.

The youngster is only 20 years old, but by playing for the Colombian national team and getting a move to the Premier League, he is showing that a great future is on the cards for him.

In terms of attributes, Hernandez is a rapid forward who possesses the pace to stretch the opposition and also run the channels. He is physically strong, can dribble past defenders with ease and is a decent finisher in the final third.

So, it can be said that the Colombian does have the potential and the talent to make it to the Premier League in the future. Hence, Watford are right to offer him a new deal and send him on loan to Real Mallorca.
