“Wasted the gift”, “Absolutely shambolic”: Some Chelsea fans left fuming after frustrating 2-2 draw vs Burnley

Chelsea v Burnley Report – Chelsea Match Report

Chelsea’s top-four hopes took a slight dent as they were held to a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge by a stubborn Burnley. N’Golo Kante and Gonzalo Higuain were the scorers for the home side, while Jeff Hendrick and Ashley Barnes netted the goals for the visitors.

Around the eighth minute, the Clarets took the lead. It stemmed from a corner that was not cleared properly by the Blues and the ball fell kindly for Hendrick at the edge of the box to volley it first time into the back of the net.

Four minutes later, Maurizio Sarri’s men equalised when Eden Hazard took Matt Lowton on and got the better of him on the left-hand side. The Belgian then had the vision of picking out Kante at the edge of the box. The latter then swung his left boot to score.

In the 14th minute, Chelsea turned this game around when a brilliant flick by Cesar Azpilicueta freed up Higuain in the box. The angle was tight but the Argentine used his power to rocket that shot into the roof of the goal.

The basketball-type scoring continued, this time with Burnley netting the equaliser in the 24th minute.

This came from a well-worked set-piece where Ben Mee and Chris Wood won two headers in the Chelsea box. The eventual flick by the latter fell for Barnes who was unmarked two yards from goal to score past Kepa.

The second half was more about the away side sitting deep and soaking up the pressure that Sarri’s men creating. However, the Blues couldn’t really create enough opportunities to break that resistance.

All in all, this was two precious points dropped by Chelsea as they remain fourth in the table, having played a game more than the other three teams fighting to finish in the top-four.
