Waste Of Money: 3 Players Manchester United Could Have Signed Using The Pogba Money

Jose Mourinho’s arrival at Old Trafford looks to be the start of a new revolution at the club, as the Manchester United faithful are expecting a major change at the club by the Portuguese manager. The former Chelsea boss has already left his mark on the transfer window by signing three stars, who could make a huge difference for the Premier League giants in the upcoming campaign. The Red Devils have already added three top players, Villarreal centre-back Eric Bailly, Borussia Dortmund winger Henrikh Mkhitaryan and former Sweden international Zlatan Ibrahimovic to their squad.

The signings have strengthened the squad in a major way and now it seems that Mourinho has one more signing up his leaves, as he looks to get the Premier League giants back to winning ways.

The player all over the news has been France international Paul Pogba (€118m approx), with some recent claims stating that the deal is all but done, just that the English giants are yet to announce it officially, which might happen in the upcoming days.

Recently club legend Paul Scholes had stated that the midfield superstar was not worth the hype and that paying a fee of £86m for the 23-year-old Juventus superstar was not worth it.

Well with that said and done, here are three big stars that the Manchester-based club could have signed instead of the Frenchman in order to make their midfield look much more solid:

3. Blaise Matuidi (Paris Saint-Germain €30m):

Rather than bringing Pogba to the Theater of Dreams, his compatriot Matuidi could have been signed from the Ligue 1 champions, with Mourinho adding a few more players to the squad with the money saved. The 29-year-old superstar looked good for the Euro 2016 hosts, helping them make it to the finals of the tournament and would have been a great signing if PSG were willing to sell. Even if the French giants would have wanted to retain their prized possession, Mourinho’s will to get his man and United’s money would have eventually forced a move for their target. Matuidi has made a total of 165 appearances, scoring 19 times for the champions of France, since moving to the Parc des Princes back in 2011.

2. Nemanja Matic (Chelsea €38m):

Jose Mourinho was keen on adding his former player Matic to his squad at United and looked desperate to sign him initially. However, the move got rebuffed and there was no progress in the deal eventually. The former Real Madrid main-man eventually offered the Blues his right-back Matteo Darmian, though Conte did not seem too interested in letting the defensive midfielder leave. The arrival of N’Golo Kante at Stamford Bridge also must have given Mourinho a boost, though no deal has been confirmed so far and it still remains to be seen what happens next in this saga.

1. Toni Kroos (Real Madrid €55m approx.):

Last but not the least, Germany international Toni Kroos would have been a great choice to add to the side as well, though it would have been a tough task to bring him away from the Bernabeu. The current champions of Europe would have wanted to retain their priced possession, though the right kind of money could have seen the move being completed. Mourinho had already sanctioned an offer for the 26-year-old midfielder and a deal could have gone through if the new United boss was really keen on signing Kroos.
