“Warm weather training was pointless”: Some Liverpool fans in utter frustration after 1-1 draw vs Leicester + Match report

Liverpool 1-1 Leicester: Reds miss a golden chance to go 7 points clear

Liverpool missed their chance to go seven points clear at the top of the table by only drawing 1-1 against Leicester City at Anfield. In a round of fixtures where big teams have suffered surprise results, the Foxes ground out a fantastic result away from home. Sadio Mane and Harry Maguire were the goalscorers on the night.

Amidst a fast start, the home side scored inside three minutes when some good play on the left-hand side of the box led to Mane having possession with a tiny bit of space. The Senegalese star did well to get his shot away from there on and find the bottom right corner.

With the kind of start the hosts made, it looked like a long night in the office for Claude Puel’s men. But they were resilient and had one or two threats from the counter that almost opened Liverpool up.

Right at the stroke of half-time, Andy Robertson gave away a silly free-kick. From the resulting set-piece, the home side didn’t clear their lines well and Maguire was found onside at the far post with a simple task of tapping in following an intelligent header back by Ben Chilwell.

Liverpool tried their best to open Leicester up in the second half but the goal wasn’t coming. However, Naby Keita should have got a penalty when he was clearly fouled by Ricardo Pereira in the box. Referee Martin Atkison didn’t see it that way.

At the end of the day, it was two points dropped for Klopp’s men, who are now five clear at the top of the table with 14 matchdays still to go.
