“Wait another 30 years to win the league”: Some Liverpool fans left worried after 1-1 draw vs West Ham + Match report

West Ham 1-1 Liverpool: Reds drop two more points to let City closer

Liverpool failed to break down a stubborn West Ham United rearguard as they draw consecutive games for the first time in the league this season. Sadio Mane scored the opener for the visitors but Michail Antonio equalised for the hosts and the scoreline remained the same until the final whistle.

The Hammers started the game brightly by creating a couple of good chances to shoot from outside the box. Javier Hernandez’s attempt was parried out by Alisson, while Aaron Cresswell pile-driver just missed the far post by a whisker.

Jurgen Klopp’s men then slowly started to get into their groove. Some good work by Adam Lallana and a subtle layoff to James Milner freed up the latter with space. He then fired the ball towards Mane, who turned swiftly and got his finish away at the far post to give his team the lead in the 22nd minute.

The goal was a controversial one as Milner was a couple of yards offside in the build-up, but the linesman failed to spot it.

West Ham levelled things up six minutes later when a clever layoff from Felipe Anderson off a free-kick caught Liverpool by surprise and Antonio ghosted in the box with no one tracking. The latter then just put his foot through the ball and scored.

The Reds then tried hard to create an opening but the passing speed was too slow at times, which allowed the home team to get back into their shape. That being said, it was Manuel Pellegrini’s men who had the better chances on the counter-attack to score the second goal.

Another couple of points dropped for Klopp’s men, who are now only three ahead of Manchester City in the race. The Cityzens can win against Everton and go to the top of the table to heap more pressure on the Merseysiders.
