Aston Villa opinion: Villans bid for Said Benrahma – Good move?

According to a report in the Daily Star, Premier League’s new boys Aston Villa have submitted an £8.9m bid for Brentford star Said Benrahma as they aim to sign him this summer.

After a sensational comeback, in which they managed to win the playoff final, Dean Smith’s men are now back in the big-time league. The manager is keen to strengthen his squad in order to increase their chances of survival next season. (h/t Daily Star)

Along with Benrahma, the Villans are looking at the possibility of signing either or both of Tammy Abraham and Tyrone Mings (h/t Daily Star). Hence, it is clear that they are aiming at enhancing the quality of their squad.

Smith knows about Benrahma all too well after working with him when he was the manager at Brentford. Here’s why he would be right to bring the player to Villa Park this summer:

Benrahma’s creative propensity would be helpful

Predominantly a left-winger, Said Benrahma can play on the other side, or as an attacking midfielder, if required. In fact, during the course of last season, he played and performed well in all of the three positions for Brentford.

In terms of attributes, the 23-year-old possesses great pace, fantastic dribbling skills, decent passing and key passing rate and an ability to have a pop at goal when space is provided. 11 goals and 17 assists in 45 appearances in all competitions depict a positive story.

On the other hand, Aston Villa do have Jack Grealish as their creator-in-chief, however, they do not have quality wingers or someone who can replace the aforementioned star man.

Hence, they are right in submitting a bid for Benrahma, a player who knows all about the playing systems of Dean Smith. So, if the move is completed, then he wouldn’t take much time settling into the new system.

Conclusion

All in all, if the Villans are in the market to enhance their creative department of the squad, then they are in the right direction by bidding for Benrahma.
