Predicted Leicester City Line-up To Face Liverpool In EFL Cup

Leicester City will welcome Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool to the King Power Stadium, this Tuesday night, in the third round of the Carabao EFL Cup.

The Foxes made it to this stage of the competition after they defeated Sheffield United 4-1 away from home in the second round and manager Craig Shakespeare will be hoping to get a positive result against the Merseysiders too, who have been struggling to put teams away in the past week or so. Leicester come into the game on the back of a 1-1 draw against Huddersfield Town in the weekend and will be wanting to put on a stronger display against the Reds.

Team News

Striker Jamie Vardy may be an absentee for Shakespeare after he was taken off with a groin injury against the Terriers over the weekend. Left-back Christian Fuchs is still recovering from his freak eye injury and he might be available only for the weekend. Midfielder Matty James too is set to be absent due to an Achilles problem. Robert Huth is fit again and may be in line for a return.

Here’s how Leicester could take the field against Klopp’s Reds:

Manager: Craig Shakespeare

Formation: 4-4-2

Ben Hamer (GK)

The 29-year old Englishman is the second-choice stopper behind Kasper Schmeichel and had started the previous cup game. In line for his second appearance of the season.

Harry Maguire

Daniel Amartey (RB)

Was the designated right-back for the cup game against the Blades and is likely to get the nod again, ahead of Danny Simpson.

Robert Huth (CB)

The veteran centre-half is fit again and could be reinstated to the starting XI for the clash against Liverpool, with captain Wes Morgan making way.

Harry Maguire (CB)

One of Leicester’s best players this term so far, the former Hull City man should keep his place in the heart of the defence, ahead of loanee Aleksandar Dragovic.

Ben Chilwell (LB)

With Fuchs still not 100% ready, the young Ben Chilwell should continue to feature from the start, on the left-hand side of the defence.

Ahmed Musa (RM)

The Nigerian is another who doesn’t feature in the league games but started and scored in the second round of this competition. Should get the nod on the right flank, in place of Riyad Mahrez.

Andy King (CM)

The long-serving midfielder should take his place in the middle of the park and will look to curtail the midfield runners of Liverpool.

Wilfred Ndidi (CM)

Partnering King in the centre of the pitch should be the young Wilfred Ndidi. The 20-year old hasn’t missed a single game this season and is an important player for the club.

Demarai Gray (LM)

On the left flank, we may see another change, as youngster Demarai Gray might get a starting place ahead of Marc Albrighton. Had scored in the previous round and would want to do so again.

Kelechi Iheanacho

Kelechi Iheanacho (ST)

At the top, it should be summer signing Kelechi Iheanacho. His pace and directness could prove to be a clincher against a struggling Liverpool defence.

Islam Slimani (ST)

The big man bagged a double in the previous cup tie, against Sheffield United and with Vardy a doubt, he should be given a chance to shine again.
