Two Pros And Cons Of Chelsea Signing Alexis Sanchez

sanchez

According to recent reports, Chelsea are planning to make a sensational move for Arsenal’s leading man Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean has only 18 months left on his current contract and with negotiations having hit a snag due to the wage demands, the Blues are looking to benefit from the stalemate.

Alexis has been in brilliant form for the Gunners this season and has been the key for their rise to the second place in the league table and their group win in the UEFA Champions League. Let’s analyse two pros and two cons that would come out for Chelsea from this deal:

PROS:

Strengthened attacking force

Chelsea’s attacking triumvirate of Eden Hazard, Diego Costa and Pedro, has been one of the most feared attacking line-up this season. The 3-4-3 system Conte has deployed at Stamford Bridge has brought out the best in Hazard and Pedro while Costa looks like a man reformed under the Italian and is the leading goalscorer with 12 goals in the league this season.

Imagine the havoc Chelsea could cause if they manage to add Alexis to their line-up. The Chilean has scored 11 times this season and his advent as a striker has been a surprise for everyone and if he joins the Blues’ ranks, their attacking prowess will be unmatched.

Plan B with Costa and Sanchez leading the line

With the signing of Alexis, it will provide Conte with an option to use Diego Costa alongside the Chilean leading the line for Chelsea. Two of the league’s leading goalscorers playing together, it will be nothing short of a nightmare for the opposition defences.

Costa, this season, has added an entirely new dimension to his game, working hard not just for himself but his teammates. He is always looking to open up spaces for his partners to run into and his support play has been top notch this term. And the same applies to Alexis as well. The Chilean leading the line has brought out the best in the likes of Theo Walcott and Alex Iwobi. If Chelsea manages to get these two together, goals galore will follow, without a question.

CONS:

Injury record

Sanchez has always had a brush with injuries in the past. Often worked heavily for both club and country, the 27-year old is prone to injuries much more than an average footballer. However, he has had an injury-free season so far and has shown what he can do when he is 100% fit and firing on all cylinders.

That should be one area of concern for Chelsea before signing Alexis, given the huge amounts of funds that will be invested in bringing him to Stamford Bridge.

An end to Pedro’s Chelsea career?

One more thing that could cause concern among the Chelsea faithful will be the fact that once Alexis is signed, it will definitely mean an end to the Hazard, Costa and Pedro partnership that has prospered and enjoyed so much success this season.

But with Alexis coming in, he will definitely feature in the playing XI week in week out. With Costa and Hazard irreplaceable, it will mean Pedro will miss out from the line-up. The Spaniard, after having a poor debut season, was finally showing his abilities this season under Conte, but if Chelsea do bring in the Chilean, it could spell an end to the former Barcelona man’s time at Chelsea.
