Two Players Who Could Follow Jonny Hayes To Celtic

Celtic are still pursuing a move for Aberdeen winger Jonny Hayes, something which seems to have divided the fans. It must be remembered though that Brendan Rodgers needs to take care of business domestically given the obvious improvements being made in the Rangers squad and so signing players for Champions League duty cannot be their only motivation.

Hayes would arguably be a good addition to the squad, and here we look at two more players who could follow him to Parkhead in the next few weeks.

Lucas Leiva (Liverpool)

The 30-year-old Brazilian has been at Liverpool for a decade now, and has spent time with Brendan Rodgers. He knows his time is up on Merseyside under Jurgen Klopp. The Reds are preparing a daring raid on both the Premier League and the Champions League titles and so are rebuilding their team.

Celtic, if offered the player, cannot afford to turn down the chance to bring in this level of quality and Leiva is certainly someone who would be comfortable playing in the Champions League. Assuming Celtic can afford his wages, Lucas would be an excellent addition to the midfield at Parkhead.

Fabio Borini (Sunderland)

Now that Sunderland have been relegated from the Premier League, the former Liverpool striker may be offered to other clubs. Borini is still under contract at the Stadium of Light and and so a reasonable fee would be needed to secure his services.

Jermain Defoe’s departure brings them no fee whatsoever and so selling the likes of Borini is the only way the Black Cats can claw back some funds quickly. Borini, though not as good as Dembele at this time, would be a better option in Europe than Leigh Griffiths and could just add the extra bit of quality needed in Champions League matches.

Griffiths had a good end to the season and it seems like he has proven he is not what the club need in Europe’s premier competition. The jury is out on whether Borini is at the desired level, but I have a feeling he is who Rodgers needs at Celtic.
