Enough is enough – Mourinho must wield the axe on these 2 Tottenham players at the earliest

Two players Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho should sell in January

Jose Mourinho is ready to transform his Tottenham squad in January. Spurs are willing to listen to offers for a couple of players in January, according to the Telegraph.

Since Jose Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino at the helm of the club in November, Tottenham have enjoyed an upturn in fortunes. Despite being back in the frame for a top-four spot, depth is an issue in some areas of the squad and that is something Mourinho should address during the winter transfer window.

For instance, Harry Kane, who is the undisputed first-choice striker at the club, has no back-up or competition as such. When he is out, either Lucas Moura or Son Heung-min has to step in. Both of them have always typically been wingers. To suddenly expect either one of them to slot in the No. 9 role is no mean task.

Tottenham will need to bring in a couple of new players to boost their top-four hopes, but before they can do that, Mourinho needs to make some space in his squad. That being said, here are two players Spurs should offload in the New Year.

1. Danny Rose

Danny Rose has found game time at Tottenham difficult since Mourinho took charge. In fact, the England international’s form this season has taken a turn for the worse such that the Portuguese manager has used Jan Vertonghen as a make-shift left-back in Spurs’ last four Premier League games.

The 29-year-old still has 18 months remaining on his contract and he wants to see out the remainder of his deal at Tottenham. (h/t The Telegraph) Rose is an experienced player but he just hasn’t produced the goods this season.

2. Christian Eriksen

The 27-year-old has been a world-class performer in his time in north London since arriving from Ajax back in 2013. As he is in the final year of his contract, the Dane can sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club next month.

Nonetheless, an exit for Eriksen in the next transfer window would be preferable for Spurs, allowing the club to receive a fee. With the money they get from the midfielder’s sale, Mourinho could use in strengthening other areas of his squad, for example, the defence.
