2 Spanish Forwards Who Leeds United Should Target In The Summer

Leeds United

Leeds United have had a steady season so far in the EFL Championship. The Whites find themselves at 4th position in the standings, two points behind 3rd placed Huddersfield Town. Going by their current position, it looks like they will be involved in the playoffs for promotion to the Premier League unless there is a major slip-up in the coming weeks.

Manager Garry Monk has, throughout the season, stressed upon the fact that the squad at his disposal needs serious strengthening. And it would become even more crucial, if the Whites manage to get through the playoffs and earn a promotion to the English top-flight.

Leeds went out and brought in a few players in January with Modou Barrow coming in on loan from Swansea City, along with Alfonso Pedraza Sag from Villarreal – again on loan. They also signed Pablo Hernandez permanently from Al-Arabi. The two Spanish stars, Pedraza and Hernandez have made great impacts upon arrival. And here we bring you two more players from Spain who Leeds should target in the upcoming summer window:

Samu Saiz

The 26-year old forward was targeted by the Whites in the summer of 2016, but no move materialized. But Leeds could revive their interest in Saiz in the summer.

The Spaniard, who plays for Spanish second division side Huesca, has scored 5 times this season and also has 8 assists to his name from 28 La Liga2 appearances. Someone who thrives playing in the space behind the striker as an auxiliary forward, Saiz is in many ways similar to Michu, who set the Premier League on fire in his first season with Swansea City. He can also operate as a lone striker or play on the right-flank as well, making him a valuable option.

With Marcus Antonsson not having any sort of impact as a backup to Chris Wood, Leeds could very well take a risk on the player who they have scouted before.

Sergi Enrich

The 27-year old Eibar forward is enjoying one of his best campaigns in his career and has been one of the prime reasons for Eibar’s 8th position in the league.

Enrich has managed to find the back of the net on 10 occasions in 29 appearances in the La Liga and also has 5 assists to his name. An out and out striker, Enrich could ease a lot of pressure on Leeds’ main striker Woods, and could provide them with an alternate option at the top of the attack. There are no questions if he will be a marked improvement on Antonsson and if Leeds manage to get promoted to the top division, Enrich’s goals will help them a great deal.
