Rangers selling these 2 out-of-favour stars is absolutely crucial ahead of January – Here’s why

Two players Rangers should offload during the January transfer window

Steven Gerrard took charge of Rangers in 2018 and has done an impressive job since joining the club. He has pledged his future at Ibrox until 2024 and is more than capable of potentially ending Celtic’s dominance in Scotland.

Rangers have enjoyed a solid season so far as they have made it into Europa League’s round of 32.

The Gers have a great chance of winning the Premiership this season and Gerrard should bolster his team’s title hopes by adding a couple of players in January.

However, Gerrard will need to free up some space in his squad before adding new players. It may be a ruthless move to let some of the players leave but doing that would ensure Rangers use the money in reinforcing the weak areas for the second half of the campaign.

That being said, here are two players the Gers should offload in January.

1. Eros Grezda

Eros Grezda is out of Gerrard’s plans at present, having spat at an opposition player while representing Rangers’ Colts team earlier this season.

In fact, the 24-year-old hasn’t made a single first-team appearance this season, with his most recent outing coming as a substitute in a 3-0 win at Motherwell in April.

Grezda has struggled massively since his arrival in the summer of 2018 from NK Osijek. His complete lack of first-team football at Ibrox has seen him lose his spot in the Albania squad as well.

As things stand, there’s no way back for the Albanian and Gerrard should trim the wage bill by offloading him as quickly as possible next month.

2. Greg Docherty

Just like Grezda, Greg Docherty’s Ibrox future looks to be uncertain. He has barely featured for Gerrard’s side this season.

Docherty, 23, was outstanding in England’s third tier last year, impressing for Shrewsbury Town on loan. The former Scotland U21 international scored seven goals in 41 appearances, helping Shrewsbury finish 18th in the table.

There was a real sense after his loan last season that the midfielder could kick on. Unfortunately, that has not happened. And offloading Docherty during the January transfer window would be a sensible move from Gerrard and company.
