Two Players Who Can Help Leicester City Challenge For Europa League Spots Next Season

Leicester City have managed to pull off another escape after being in the doldrums for large parts of the season. The last season’s Premier League winners endured a poor start under manager Claudio Ranieri as relegation threat loomed large, which resulted in the Italian getting the sack.

However, under new boss Craig Shakespeare the Foxes have had a resurgence and have managed to rise up to 11th place in the league standings. Leicester City have accumulated 40 points from 34 games and with still 4 more games left to be played, their status as a Premier League club is almost secured.

There is no doubt that Leicester would want to do much better in the coming season, after having dipped so poorly after becoming the champions of England. To that end, here are two players who Leicester should sign in the summer, to help them to a top-half finish and even aid them to challenge for the Europa League spots:

Erik Sviatchenko

Leicester’s title last season was built on an extremely solid defensive line with captain Wes Morgan and Robert Huth playing some of their best football. However, the ageing duo struggled to maintain those levels for large parts of the ongoing campaign, which has been one of the biggest reasons for Leicester’s fall from grace this season.

Sviatchenko has been one of the best defenders in the Scottish Premiership with Celtic but has found himself warming the benches over the past few months with the Bhoys’ manager Brendan Rodgers preferring to play Jozo Simunovic and Dedryck Boyata at the heart of the defence. The Danish international has displayed that he is tailor-made for the Premier League with his physicality and some decent pace.

At 25, Sviatchenko is yet to reach his peak and has showcased his innate abilities that he can cut it out in the English top division. With Leicester maintaining an interest in the player, it is worth pursuing the player.

Bruma

The Galatasaray wide man has been linked heavily with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, but Leicester City are still pursuing his signature along with the likes of Southampton.

The 22-year old Bruma has been one of the best performers for the Turkish giants this season and has managed 10 goals and 8 assists from 32 games across all competitions. His blistering pace and directness out on the flanks is something that has stood out this term. Versatile enough to play on either wing or through the middle, Bruma could be a huge asset for Leicester if they manage to get their hands on him.

With Riyad Mahrez’ future unclear, the Foxes would do well to add more depth and quality to the right-flank and the Portuguese youth international could turn out to be a shrewd addition as he has the ability to turn into a star performer for the club for years to come.
