Two more signings Sheffield Wednesday could follow it up after Joey Pelupessy’s arrival

Sheffield Wednesday have completed the signing of midfield player Joey Pelupessy from Heracles in the Netherlands this week. The 24-year-old began his career with FC Twente in the Eredivisie where he made 119 appearances before moving to Heracles in 2014.

Having signed Heracles captain for an undisclosed amount of money, Wednesday may need further reinforcements as they seek to get their season back on track and aim for the playoffs.

The Owls already have a reasonable base as they sat in the playoff positions for most of last season, remaining solid throughout. However, as is always the case in football, a squad must evolve in order to remain competitive and they’re pretty much stagnated, which culminated in Carlos Carvalhal leaving for Swansea this month.

Further new signings are a must if they are to repeat last year’s finish, with these two being the players who the club may look to bring in:

Miquel Nelom (Feyenoord)

The left-back, twice capped by the Netherlands, is out of contract in the summer at Feyenoord, who are now listening to offers for him in a bid to bring in some money for a player who can leave for free in June. The 27-year-old has remained a regular starter for the Eredivisie club for a number of seasons now and even played against Man City in his club’s Champions League clash this season against Pep Guardiola’s men.

Birmingham City are also in the running for Nelom but their perilous league position is too much of a comedown for the full-back who may be more open to a move to Hillsborough.

Clint Leemans (VVV-Venlo)

Given the Dutch connection now evident at Wednesday with manager Jos Luhukay, it would be no surprise were the Owls to target the Venlo midfielder. Classy, left-footed and versatile, Leemans is another player who’d be out of contract by June this year. He’s willing to move on now in order to bring in a small fee for his club.

Leemans joined VVV on a free transfer in the summer of 2016, having learned his trade at Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven and has gone on to represent his country at various age levels. 20 Dutch caps in total have been won by Leemans in the Netherlands’ under-18, 19, 20 and 21 levels, which show that his basic talent is not in question and that he could be of great use to Luhukay in the second half of this season.
