Two Best And The Worst Rated Barcelona Signings Over The Past Decade

FC Barcelona has emerged as possibly the greatest football club in the last decade. Their utter dominance in both the Spanish top division and in Europe has seen them become one of the most successful and the most feared sides to play against.

So, it is not surprising to see players lining up to move to the Camp Nou on a whim. The Blaugrana have had free will when it comes to the transfer market and have been able to attract the top talent over the years. However, while there have been plenty of success stories, there have also been some miserable failures.

With the January transfer window open, amidst all the transfer fever among the fans, we at SoccerSouls give you two of the best and the worst transfers made by the current La Liga holders in the last decade:

Best Transfers

Luis Suarez

The Uruguayan striker makes it to the list despite his short tenure in Spain, considering how much he has gone on to achieve in just over two years.

Suarez arrived from Liverpool for a fee of £65 million in the summer of 2014, but did not debut until late October, due to an ongoing ban for his actions during the FIFA World Cup in 2014. However, since his delayed first appearance, the Uruguayan has reached enormous heights with Barcelona and along with Lionel Messi and Neymar has formed a tremendous attacking trio that is arguably the greatest front three in the game ever. Suarez scored 59 times last term and went on to became the first player to beat Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to the Pichichi and Golden Boot awards since compatriot Diego Forlan in 2009.

Suarez’s aggressive and tenacious approach has given Barca a cutting edge, an alternate dimension that they seemed to have lacked for some time in the attacking third and it has led them to a treble and domestic double in consecutive seasons.

Gerard Pique

Having played the role of the apprentice for years, Gerard Pique is well and truly the leader of the Barcelona defence now. The Spaniard has managed to emerge from the shadows of Barca legend Carles Puyol to become one of the finest defenders in the game over the last couple of seasons.

A former youth academy product, Pique was shipped out to Manchester United but was brought back to the club in 2008. And since then, the centre-back has lifted a mind-boggling 24 trophies with Barcelona including two trebles and looks hungry for more.

He may get involved in controversies off the field due to his statements, due to which he may not be liked by many, but there is no doubt that Pique is one of the best centre-backs in the current generation and has been a great addition to the Barcelona defence.
