Twitter Reactions To Arsenal’s Defeat Against Blackburn

Today’s loss to Blackburn practically confirms an eighth successive season without a trophy for Arsenal. Practically it’s not over, but let’s face it, even if they overcome the mighty Germans next week there is a long way before lifting the Champions league trophy.

There may be a thousand different opinions about Wenger’s team selection today but to opt for a weakened eleven in a competition where you have a very good chance of winning is absolutely shocking. Even if the likes of Wilshere and Cazorla deserved a much needed rest, players like Ramsey and Podolski should have started. Instead Wenger opted for Gervinho and Chamberlain, who were average. And again, the Gunner’s boss made mistakes with his substitutions. A triple substitution around the 70th minute mark (60 would have given more time for the new players) which saw Cazorla, Wilshere and Walcott step in.

But the mistake was taking off Rosicky who clearly had a good game and left Diaby on the field. The goal was conceded just after the substitutions and there was not much that the Arsenal defender could do about it. No one saw that coming. Arsenal had about 15 minutes to equalise but Blackburn were resolute and held on to a much deserving place at the Quarter finals of the competition. There is really no excuse for this loss, Arsenal had more than enough quality in their starting line up to beat a Championship side and yet they end up losing.
