Arsenal and Manchester United are locked in a battle to sign a young German midfielder Leon Goretzka from Bochum, who is being touted as the next Michael Ballack.
His impressive form this season made both Arsenal and United to send scouts regularly to monitor him. Other European clubs including Juventus and Real Madrid are also interested in him.
United are seeking to improve their midfield and still looking for a long-term replacement for Scholes.
Arsenal in the meantime, have an abundance of flair players with the likes of Santi Cazorla, Wilshere and Mikel Arteta but are in desperate need of someone who has enough steel to dominate opponent midfield.
Italian football website Calciomercato speaks of Goretzka in glowing terms and believes he could be a real super star in the future.
They also noted that Juventus will not make a move for Goretzka, especially as they are readying a bid for Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Goretzka’s current focus will be to ensure Bochum beat the drop in Bundesliga 2.
