Strongest Tottenham Lineup To Face Arsenal In The Capital One Cup: Midfield Star to Start

Last season’s Capital One finalist, Tottenham start their campaign this year with a home game against their arch rivals Arsenal. Mauricio Pochettino’s team faces Manchester City this weekend, which can force the manager to make some changes. Pochettino will be smart enough in rotating his squad this year, in order to be competitive on all fronts. The strength of opposition could mean there will be many first team players on the show than usual for both the teams. Both the managers will try and fill their side up with fringe players, youngsters, and those in need of match fitness.

Hugo Lloris

Goalkeeper: Hugo Lloris

This is one position where Pochettino might not like to experiment too much since It was very much evident after last week’s Europa League match that he doesn’t have much confidence in Michel Vorm. Lloris has been excellent for Tottenham this year and is definitely one of the top goalkeepers in England right now.

Defense: Danny Rose, Kieran Trippier, Toby Alderweireld and Kevin Wimmer

Spurs might change both their full-backs from the weekend game, therefore Danny Rose and Kieran Trippier might be imported in the starting XI. Alderweireld will in all likelihood keep his place in the centre of the back-line, but Pochettino might go for Wimmer for this game to partner him. Wimmer had a very decent game against Quabarg.

Midfield: Dier, Mason, Chadli, Eriksen and Son

It is the midfield where Pochettino has the luxury of Options to select from after it was confirmed that both Ryan Mason and Dembele fit. In the defensive midfield area, we might see the pairing of Eric Dier and Ryan Mason. The big name in the line-up could be Christian Eriksen, who is working his way back after a recent injury. Eriksen most probably will be accompanied by summer signing Son and Chadli. Son will be high on confidence after scoring the winner against Palace on Sunday. He can very well shift position with Harry Kane up front who likes to come back to get more of the ball. There is a small possibility that we might even see Lamela from the start in place of Chadli, but the manager would want to use him as an effective substitute.

Striker: Harry Kane

Kane is desperate to get his first goal of the season and what better time to get it than against your arch enemies. Kane will keep rotating with Son, who has already made quite an impact since his move to Tottenham this summer. If both these players get some sort of rhythm going, then it will be very difficult for the Arsenal defenders to contain them.
