Transfer Opinion: Do Arsenal Need To Buy Anymore Attackers This Summer?

Arsene ‘Mr Moneybags’ Wenger certainly is one happy man, well he should be at least. The stadium for which he would be penny pinching is complete ahead of schedule, they just retained the FA Cup, Jack Wilshere has started showing just how good he really is and they have one of the best attacking teams in the Premier League and could be looking to get better.

Arsene Wenger has spent huge in the last two summer transfer windows which included big money deals for Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil which gave Arsenal and extra edge in the attack, they are in the market like most top clubs are to improve their squad and could be looking to sign an attacking midfielder but the question is, do they need another attacker in their line-up?

Too many attackers, they need more defensive players

Arsenal do have the money power to buy big names players, attackers are available to bolster a team, but the Gunners need to have more help in other regions of their team. The club is blessed with pacey attackers like Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain and game changers like Sanchez, Ozil and Cazorla, what the club really needs are defensive players who can provide them with some steel this season.

The only player who did that in midfield last season was Francis Coquelin but calling him into work every single game next season would burn him out even before he can establish a career at London, Arsenal should not rely on a youngster this much and need to invest in a good defensive midfielder, William Carvalho is being linked with the club but any good defensive midfielder would help Arsenal a lot.

The same can be said about the defence, Arsenal need a couple of good central defenders and that should be another priority for Arsene Wenger. The goalkeeping department was a priority for the club but it seems that they are in pole position to sign Chelsea’s Petr Cech, which would be a great signing for the club since Cech is a world class goalkeeper and can make Arsenal much better at the back.

The ethos of Arsenal’s play has always been about attack but this season it should be about consolidating the defensive aspects of their game, sure they already have some of the best attacking talents in the Premier League and if they can get an upgrade for a great number 9, they should go for it no doubt but currently they should focus on correcting and empowering their defence rather than make the team top heavy and susceptible to attacks.
