Transfer News: Rangers set to rival Derby County for Zander Clarke

Rangers News: Rangers are reportedly in a transfer battle with Derby County for goalkeeper Zander Clarke, claims Football Insider.

The St Johnstone goalkeeper has a contract until 2020.

Player Stats

The 26-year-old progressed through the youth ranks of the Saints.

The Scottish shot-stopper has made 80 appearances for Johnstone and had loan spells at Elgin City and Queen of South.

Clark has made 40 appearances this season until an injury in February hindered his progress.

He has conceded 48 goals so far with 18 clean sheets.

He is touted to be the next goal-keeper for Scotland.

Why should the Gers move for Clark?

The Light Blues have been relying on their first choice goalkeeper Allan McGregor, who is in the twilight of his career.

Meanwhile, the back-up option Wes Foderingham has already fallen down the pecking order of  Steven Gerrard.

The Light Blues’ priority will be signing a shot-stopper in the upcoming transfer window.

Having said that, Clark would be a promising option, who can also commit to the club’s long future.

Difficulties

A move to the Frank Lampard’s side will be prevented unless they secure a spot in the Premier League next season. Derby County are set to face Leeds United in the playoffs.

The Gers have gained momentum with four straight wins in a row.

Earlier, Gerrard’s men went through a slip dip in form, which eventually cost them their title.

Gerrard is ambitious of finishing this season on a high note. They are set to play their third Old Firm derby of the season this week.
