The Athens club expressed their interest in the defender for a value of around £7million(h/t The Sunday Post) last summer.

Now, with the Belgian’s contract set to expire at the end of the season, the Greek champions have reinvigorated their interest and want him on a free.

The former Manchester City player joined the Hoops back in 2015 and has made over 100 appearances so far.

Furthermore, he represented his country in the last year’s World Cup, appearing in all group-stage matches.

However, in the presence of Mikael Lustig and Kristoffer Ajer, the 28-year-old has fallen down the pecking order this season.

Following the centre-back’s injury in the Old Firm derby last Sunday, he has been forced to miss the rest of the season, which could probably pave the way for an exit from the club.

Filip Benkovic, another centre-back who is currently on loan at Park Head, is speculated to return to his parent club Leicester City next season.

The Bhoys defeated Rangers 2-1 in the derby on Sunday.

Neil Lennon, the interim manager, has been excellent since taking the charge, leading his side and picking up 13 points without defeat.

Now, the Hoops are 13 points clear of the Light Blues and will be facing Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup finals.

The Park Head fans remain hopeful that their side will go to win a domestic double this season.
