Transfer News: Celtic eye move for Rangers target Graeme Shinnie

Celtic FC News: Celtic are reportedly interested in Rangers’ long-time target Graeme Shinnie, claims Bristol Post.

The Scottish left-back will run out his contract with Aberdeen, later this season.

Shinnie was brought into prominence with the Scottish club Inverness Caledonian Thistle, where he made 187 appearances. He was also a part of the side which won the Scottish Cup in 2015.

The 27-year-old has been a regular for the Dons since joining in 2015.

Furthermore, he earned his international call-up last year and also played in the Euro Qualifiers last month.

He has played more than 30 games this season, with three goals and assists, and also been pivotal for the Dons in reaching the Scottish Cup semi-finals.

Being a natural left-back, the Scotsman can also play as a centre-back and a defensive midfielder.

Interest from Rangers and Derby County

Shinnie has been persistently chased by the Light Blues for a while now. And the report also states that he has held talks with the Championship club Derby County. (h/t BBC Football)

Should Celtic consider the signing of Shinnie?

The Hoops’ left-back Kieran Tierney has been in sensational form this season and the possibilities of beating him as first choice are very low.

Meanwhile, the best way he can fit into the side is teaming up with Kristofer Ajer as a centre-back, a role Shinnie was used to playing, during his spell with the Dons.

And with Dedryck Boyata’s exit and Filip Benkovic returning to his parent club, the Bhoys are now in need of a defender, at least as a temporary solution. And Shinnie can help sort out their problems.

Shinnie also played as a left-back in last month’s qualifiers, replacing the injured Tierney.

The Celts are in a pole position to lift the Premiership title for the eighth time in a row. Now, they have their attention towards the Dons, who they will be facing in the Scottish Cup semi-finals.
