Harry Kane vs Alexandre Lacazette – A Statistical Comparison
Tottenham Hotspur are lucky to have one of the best strikers in England at the moment, committed to the club for the long term. Harry Kane, who was the top goal scorer in the Premier League last season, is easily one of the best forwards in world football and his heroics have now pushed the Spurs up above their local rivals Arsenal.
But Arsene Wenger is not ready to give up and has landed the perfect competition for Harry Kane, in French striker Alexandre Lacazette. The Gunners have announced the signing of the 26-year old, but can he compete neck to neck with Kane next season? To try and answer these questions, we have come up with a statistical comparison of the domestic seasons of both the players last campaign.
With 29 goals and 7 assists in 30 games, Kane was more productive in the league last season compared to Lacazette, who has 27 goals and 3 assists to his name in exactly 30 games. However, the Lyon star has been more effective than the Spurs’ star, albeit in a slightly less competitive league.
Lacazette had a pass accuracy of 78%, which helped him thread 43 key passes and create 46 chances for Lyon. Kane though, was the best outlet in attack for Spurs, had a passing accuracy of just 72%. He registered 34 key passes, creating 41 chances for the Spurs.
Incidentally, both players have a 65% shot accuracy and scored 2 headed goals each all season. However, Kane was slightly more effective from outside the box, scoring 5 goals from more than 18 yards, compared to just 2 by Lacazette.
An excellent dribbler with superb ball control, Lacazette had a successful take-on rate of 69.70%, which is considerably more than just the 50% by the English striker last season. However, Kane was more effective in winning the ball, winning 37.50% of his aerial duels and 48.10% of his total duels in the English league last season.
Lacazette won just 33.33% of the duels in the air, winning just 43.64% of his total duels all season. Kane’s trickery allowed him to draw 45 fouls from his opponents last season and Lacazette, who won just 35 fouls, will have to learn this art.
Playing for the first time in England, the Frenchman will surely have his work cut out if he wants to eclipse, probably the best striker in the country.
